Peddapalli: A political controversy erupted in Manthani during the death anniversary programme of former Speaker late Sripada Rao, after remarks made by Ramagundam MLA Makkan Singh Raj Thakur drew sharp reactions.
Addressing party workers at the event, On Monday the MLA reportedly made strong statements, assuring that if any issues arise in the absence of Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, they should inform him. He further said that he, along with Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar and Peddapalli MLA Vijayaramana Rao, would reach Manthani within hours to address concerns.
In remarks that stirred controversy, the MLA allegedly warned that anyone speaking “out of line” would be dealt with strongly, triggering criticism from political circles and raising concerns over the tone of the speech.
Responding to the issue, Minister Sridhar Babu clarified that the comments were not intended to threaten anyone. He stated that the MLA’s remarks were made in the context of boosting the confidence of the party cadre, especially new workers who might have felt intimidated in the prevailing political environment.
The Minister further explained that MLA Raj Thakur, who currently serves as the Peddapalli District Congress Committee president, is known for his maintaining a peaceful approach and that his statements were aimed at reassuring party workers rather than issuing threats.
The incident has, however, led to new debates among the political circles, with opposition parties likely to seize upon the remarks to target the ruling Congress leadership in the district.
