Bobby Portis Foundation donates $1,000 to help alma mater buy state championship rings

We interrupt the weekly recitation of horrors to offer a bit of good news: Bobby Portis continues to be an absolute mensch.

Last month, Hall High School won the Class 4A boys’ basketball title for the first time since 2013, when Portis was still on the team. On Friday, the Bobby Portis Foundation announced it was donating $1,000 to help the Warriors purchase state championship rings.

“This championship is a reflection of what’s possible when young people are supported, challenged, and encouraged to rise to their full potential,” said Dr. Ericka O’Neal-McCarroll, executive director of the Bobby Portis Foundation.

The Hall High Warriors won their title by defeating Little Rock Mills University Studies High School, 59-54. Mills was the defending 4A champion, while the Warriors were appearing in their first title game since 2019. Senior guard Landon Hill was named the game’s most valuable player.

Portis graduated from Hall in 2013. He came out of high school as the number one ranked player in Arkansas and the 25th ranked player in the entire country. He signed with the Arkansas Razorbacks and would go on to play two seasons in Fayetteville, where he was named to the SEC All-Freshman team and 2nd team All-SEC squad as a freshman. He earned a first team All-SEC nod as well as multiple 2nd team All-America honors as a sophomore before declaring for the NBA draft.

Portis was taken in the first round of the 2015 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls. Over his 11-year NBA career, Portis has averaged 12.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. He won an NBA title with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021.

Little Rock, AR (April 10, 2026) — Hall High School has claimed the 4A State Basketball Championship, marking a powerful and historic moment for the school, its athletes, and the broader Little Rock community.

To celebrate this achievement, the Bobby Portis Foundation will present a $1,000 donation to support the purchase of championship rings for the team. The check presentation will take place on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 9:30 AM at Hall High School.

The contribution recognizes the players’ discipline, resilience, and commitment to excellence throughout the season.

This victory carries added meaning as Hall High School is the alma mater of NBA champion Bobby Portis, whose journey from Little Rock to the professional stage continues to inspire young athletes across Arkansas and beyond. Known for his relentless energy and underdog mentality, Portis continues to invest in the same community that helped shape his path.

“This championship is a reflection of what’s possible when young people are supported, challenged, and encouraged to rise to their full potential,” said Dr. Ericka O’Neal-McCarroll, Executive Director of the Bobby Portis Foundation. “We are proud to celebrate these student-athletes and remain committed to creating opportunities that empower youth and strengthen families in our community.”
