UT program fuels Austin's tech boom with new ventures


The University of Texas’ Discovery to Impact program is helping to foster the next wave of startups in Austin, with the city becoming a hub for technology and entrepreneurship. The program helps students take their ideas and translate them into businesses, and has recently released a report highlighting over 100 new inventions and patents generated by the university. From September 2024 to August 2025, the program spent $1.4 billion in research and development, received 300 invention disclosures, had 154 new patent applications, and formed 12 start-ups, generating $182 million in licensing revenue.
