Winter storm tips from Texas Gas Service

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Texas can expect an arctic cold front this weekend, resulting in winter storms of ice, sleet and even snow from north to central regions.

Texas Gas Service has tips on how to stay warm and avoid weather-induced problems inside the home:

Set the thermostat to around 68°F to 70°F while awake and lower it while you’re asleep or away from home.
Change or clean air filters. Dirty filters cost more to use and overwork the equipment.
Apply weatherstripping and caulk to seal gaps and cracks around doors and windows.
Install foam gaskets on electrical switches and outlets.
Change the rotation of ceiling fans to a clockwise rotation to push warm air downward.
Set your water heater’s temperature to 120°F.

KXAN’s First Warning Weather Team will be providing updates about what’s to come this weekend after temperatures drop Friday night.
