MEMA urges Mississippians to get ready for freezing temps

PEARL, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) encouraged Mississippians to prepare for freezing temperatures this week.

The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasted freezing temperatures Sunday night into Monday morning, with a significant freeze Monday night into Tuesday morning.

  • Clear rain gutters, repair roof leaks, and cut away tree branches that could fall on a house or other structure during a storm.
  • Insulate pipes with insulation or newspapers and plastic, and allow faucets to drip slightly during cold weather to avoid freezing.
