VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) – The man accused of killing a Hinds County sergeant was captured in Vicksburg.
Interim Jackson Police Chief and Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said Ladarien Tyrese Jones was arrested by multiple law enforcement agencies at an undisclosed location in Vicksburg on November 5, 2025.
“HCSO and JPD would like to thank all agencies that assisted in this investigation, which ultimately led to the arrest of this suspect,” the sheriff said.

Ladarien Jones was wanted for murder and auto theft.
The shooting occurred in the 1700 block of Dorgan Street on November 2, 2025.
According to police, the victim, Sgt. James Dotson, Jr., 32, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Sheriff Jones said Dotson was a member of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Raymond Detention Center.
According to police, Ladarien Jones stole Dotson’s vehicle, which was a gray 2020 Dodge Challenger. The vehicle was recovered in the parking lot of a north Jackson apartment complex on November 4, 2025.
