NDSU dominates SDSU in top-ranked Dakota Marker battle

BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO) — Top-ranked NDSU rolled to a 38-7 win over No. 2 SDSU in the annual Dakota Marker showdown at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium Saturday night.

The Bison found the endzone on their first three drives and scored on five of their six possessions to take a 31-7 lead into halftime. North Dakota State outgained the Jackrabbits 500-166.

NDSU quarterback Cole Payton rushed for four touchdowns, including scoring runs of 57 and 47 yards. He also went 18-of-23 through the air for 243 yards.

South Dakota State turned to Luke Marble as the starting quarterback in place of the injured Chase Mason, who did not suit up and was in a walking boot on the sideline. Marble went 7-for-16 for 89 yards and one touchdown.

SDSU (7-1) will look to bounce back against Indiana State next Saturday before the State-U showdown against USD in Vermillion in two weeks.
