Woman shot in head while inside SUV with child: JPD

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police are investigating after a woman was shot in the head while inside a vehicle with a child.

Interim Jackson Police Chief and Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said someone fired shots into a gray Honda SUV on Cynthia Road near Highway 49 around 4:30 p.m. on October 12, 2025. The vehicle was occupied by a male driver, a female front passenger and a six-year-old child in the back seat.

FBI seeks suspects in Leland mass shooting

Jones said the female passenger was shot in the head, and the driver proceeded to the nearby Sprint Mart where police were called. He said officers are investigating the scene where the shooting occurred and the scene at the Sprint Mart.

The injured victim was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. No other injuries were reported. Jones said there is no suspect information at this time.
