Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In August 2025, the consolidated Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Uzbekistan rose by 0.4% month-on-month, reaching 4.5% since December 2024 and 8.8% year-on-year, according to the National Statistical Committee.
For comparison, in August 2024 the CPI increased by 0.5% month-on-month, 5.5% since December 2023, and 10.5% year-on-year. The average monthly CPI growth from January to August 2025 was 0.5%, compared to 0.7% in the same period last year.
Excluding fruits and vegetables, the consolidated index rose 0.4% month-on-month (0.9% in August 2024), 6.1% year-to-date (8.4% a year earlier), and 9.6% year-on-year (12.5% in August 2024).
Among food products, in August the prices of eggs (+2.7%), chicken drumsticks and thighs (+2.1%), other poultry meat (+1.9%), lamb (+1.4%), boneless beef (+0.7%), beef with bones (+0.2%), and cottonseed oil (+1.6%) increased. Granulated sugar rose by 0.1%. Prices fell for rice and cracked wheat (–0.1%), millet (–0.2%), premium flour bread (–0.2%), caramel (–0.2%), and noodles (–0.4%).
In the fruits and vegetables market, the largest price increases were recorded for watermelons (+28.7%), melons (+11.7%), cabbage (+11.4%), potatoes (+3.5%), and bananas (+2.8%). Meanwhile, prices dropped for tomatoes (–16.8%), grapes (–5.4%), eggplants (–4.3%), cucumbers (–3.1%), carrots (–3.1%), bell peppers (–2.8%), onions (–2.3%), and apples (–1.0%).
In housing services, tariffs rose for waste removal in Bukhara Region (3.0%) and for maintenance of apartment buildings in Khorezm Region (0.3%). Housing repair materials increased by 0.4%.
In healthcare, medicines grew in price by 0.2%, outpatient services by 0.4%, and other medical services by 0.6%.
In transport, gasoline prices rose on average by 3.1%. AI-80 increased by 4.6% to 8,746 sums per liter, AI-91 by 0.3% to 11,461 sums, AI-92 by 2.3% to 11,126 sums, and AI-95 by 1.4% to 12,983 sums. AI-98 prices remained at 16,450 sums. Propane increased by 0.6%, while methane prices remained unchanged, staying 31% higher than last year.
Average parking fees rose by 0.7%, driving course tuition by 1.6%, and vehicle maintenance services by 0.6%. At the same time, public transport fares decreased by 0.1%, due to lower prices for train and air tickets.
In the “Recreation, sports, and culture” category, museum services (+10.6%) and veterinary services (+9.9%) saw the most significant increases, reflecting the rise in the basic calculation value (BCV) to 412,000 sums from August 1.
Dining out and hotel services rose by 0.7% and 0.4%, respectively.
Among household goods and services, prices increased by more than 1% for photocopying services (+1.3%), cosmetology services (+1.2%), hair dye (+1.1%), and school bags (+1.1%). Legal services rose by 9.9% due to the increase in BCV.
Overall, short-term CPI changes in August ranged from 100.1% (“Clothing and Footwear,” “Information and Communication”) to 100.9% (“Recreation, Sports, and Culture”). Year-on-year CPI varied from 100.6% (“Insurance and Financial Services”) to 116.9% (“Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels”).
The largest contribution to the monthly rise in the consolidated CPI came from food and non-alcoholic beverages (+0.26 percentage points, or 59.1% of the total effect). Housing services, transport, and household goods together added +0.12 percentage points.
Since the beginning of the year, the main drivers of the consolidated CPI increase have been price changes in housing services, transport, food, household services, and healthcare (+3.71 percentage points, or 83.2% of the total increase).
