Zimbabwe to play Nigeria in 4-nations tournament in London

HARARE – Zimbabwe will next month compete in the Unity Cup 2026 in London — the first time Zimbabwe have played in England in a tournament of this nature.

The Zimbabwe Football Association confirmed on Wednesday that the Warriors have been included in the four-nation tournament to be held at The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic FC, from May 26 to 30.

Zimbabwe will face Nigeria in the opening semi-final on May 26, with Jamaica taking on India in the other semi-final on May 27. Both matches kick off at 7.30PM, with the winners meeting in the final on May 30.

ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi said the occasion was a landmark for the national team.

“The Unity Cup is a landmark moment for Zimbabwe football. It reflects our ambition to compete, grow and test ourselves at a high international level,” he said.

Warriors coach Marian Marinica said the tournament presented an important opportunity for the squad.

“This is a strong platform for us as a team and an important chance to represent Zimbabwe with pride on an international stage,” the Romanian said.

Captain Marvelous Nakamba said the team was ready and pointed to the diaspora crowd as added motivation.

“It is always an honour to represent Zimbabwe, and playing in London in front of our supporters in the diaspora makes this occasion even more special,” Nakamba said.

The Unity Cup was previously staged at The Valley in 2004. ZIFA said the event has grown into a celebration of football, culture and diaspora identity, bringing together nations with passionate diaspora communities in England.

Tickets are available at www.unitycup.com with prices starting from £18.
