HARARE – The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has invited applications for the position of head coach of the national men’s football team, the Warriors, as it seeks to restore the side’s competitiveness in regional and continental tournaments.
The successful candidate will be expected to lead, manage and develop the team to achieve success in COSAFA, Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and FIFA competitions, the association said.
ZIFA sacked German coach Michael Nees last week after a year in charge.
According to a vacancy notice issued on Monday, applicants must hold a CAF or UEFA Pro Licence, or an equivalent internationally recognised qualification. A tertiary qualification in sport science, coaching or football management will be considered an added advantage.
Candidates are also required to have at least five years’ experience coaching at national team or top-tier club level, with a proven record of results in high-pressure environments. Experience in African competitions such as AFCON, the CAF Champions League, Confederation Cup or COSAFA is also a prerequisite.
The coach will be responsible for player selection, tactical strategy, training programmes and performance management. They will also oversee the technical staff and work closely with the ZIFA technical department to align with youth development pathways.
ZIFA said it is looking for “a modern, data-driven, performance-based football philosophy” and a leader with “strong tactical knowledge, communication skills and professionalism.”
The coach’s first major assignment would be to put together a team for the Africa Cup of Nations finals being hosted by Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
Applications close on October 30, 2025.
