Six killed after kombi plunges into water-filled gully along Harare-Bulawayo Road

Six people were killed and six others injured after a commuter omnibus veered off the Harare-Bulawayo Road and plunged into a deep concrete-lined, water-filled gully near the Harare Drive junction on Wednesday night, police have confirmed.

In a statement Thursday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the crash occurred at around 10pm at the nine-kilometre peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road at the Tynwald Railroad Flyover.

“Six people were killed while six others were injured when a kombi with 11 passengers on board veered off the road and plunged into a deep concrete-lined gully which contained water,” police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said.

The victims’ bodies were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while those injured were admitted to the same hospital for treatment.

Police said efforts were underway to identify the deceased and notify their families.

Authorities said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash were continuing, with more information expected to be released once available.
