CAMPAIGNS for Zambia’s Aug. 13 general elections will run from May 23 to Aug. 12, the Electoral Commission of Zambia announced Friday
Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro said the official campaign period starts Saturday, May 23, and ends Wednesday, Aug. 12.
The ECZ also rescheduled nomination dates for parliamentary, mayoral or council chairperson, and ward councillor elections. Nominations, originally set for May 18-21, will now begin May 20.
Kasaro said the change was due to a delay in Parliament’s adjournment before its dissolution, which was scheduled for May 15. The delay left candidates with limited time to prepare, he said.
Revised nomination dates are:
1. National Assembly: Wednesday, May 20, 2026
2. Mayoral or council chairperson: Thursday, May 21, 2026
3. Ward councillor: Thursday, May 21, and Friday, May 22, 2026
Presidential nominations will proceed as scheduled from May 18 to May 22.
“Political parties, aspiring candidates and all stakeholders are advised to take note of the revised nomination dates and make the necessary preparations accordingly,” Kasaro said.
