Vice President Mutale-Nalumango has counseled celebrated Zambian musician Yo Maps and his wife Kidist, reminding them that public positions come with both admiration and criticism.
Writing on her official Facebook page, Nalumango revealed that the celebrity couple recently asked her a thoughtful question: “Mum, how do you handle public criticism?”
In her response, the Vice President emphasized the importance of understanding that scrutiny often comes with titles and public recognition.
“Criticism often follows the weight of responsibility. People may speak harshly not because of who you are, but because of the position you hold. Titles attract scrutiny. But just as the seasons change, so too do the tides of public opinion. When the title is gone, so too will much of the noise,” she wrote.
Nalumango said that her role as Vice President had taught her to separate personal identity from public duty.
“I do not take it personally. I serve with humility, knowing that the criticism is rarely about me as an individual—it is about the office I occupy and the institution I represent. And when my time in office comes to an end, so too will the intensity of that scrutiny,” she said.
The Vice President concluded her message with a reminder that integrity must outlast any public title or position.
“What must endure, however, is the integrity with which I serve,” she stated.
