Three Mulungushi University Students Die in Great North Road Crash

ZAMBIAN singer and music producer Madalitso Phiri, also known as Mwana Wamukomboni, has been arrested and charged with five traffic-related offences after his car collided with an oncoming police motorbike.

It is believed that the artist was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police say preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred when Dalisoul’s Nissan Mitsuoka cut in front of the oncoming police motorbike, resulting in a collision.

The accident, which happened on Monday, 27 April 2026, around 23:00 hours, along Mosi-oa-Tunya Road, opposite Puma Filling Station, left the police *rider* slightly injured.

Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi named the injured officer as Inspector Kwibisa Mbuye, 39, of Lusaka, who was riding a Zambia Police BMW motorbike, registration number ZP 3050.

“He sustained slight injuries and was rushed to Maina Soko Military Hospital, where he is receiving treatment. The motorbike had its front end extensively damaged,” he said.

He said Madalitso Phiri, 42, of Chalala, Lusaka, who was driving a Nissan Mitsuoka, registration number BAB 5514, escaped unhurt.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred when the driver of the Nissan Mitsuoka cut in front of the oncoming police motorbike, resulting in a collision. The motor vehicle has been impounded and awaits examination,” he added.

Mr. Chilabi said the artist has been formally charged and arrested for the following offences: dangerous driving; driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or alcohol; and driving a motor vehicle without a road licence/tax.

The Pemphelo singer is further accused of operating a vehicle without a fitness certificate and without third-party compulsory insurance, offences contrary to the Road Traffic Act.

Mr. Chilabi said the suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
