POLICE are investigating the murder and aggravated robbery of Stelios Sardinis, 64, chief executive officer of Chaminuka Resort in Chisamba District, authorities said Sunday.
Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said the incident occurred between 1:00 a.m. and 1:15 a.m. on Aug. 9 at Chaminuka Lodge after a 52-year-old employee reported that unknown people had broken into Sardinis’ residence.
Preliminary investigations indicate the assailants, armed with weapons, forced entry through a main glass door and into a bedroom, Chilabi said. Sardinis was assaulted. The suspects allegedly took a safe containing documents and valuables and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Sardinis was taken by resort workers to CFB Medical Centre in Lusaka, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said. The value of the stolen property has not been established.
Police said they processed the crime scene and detained a security guard who was on duty to assist with investigations.
