THE Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has seized a smuggled heavy-duty self-propelled motor grader and the commercial truck used to transport it in Kapiri Mposhi, preventing a revenue loss of more than K615,000.
The interception occurred on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, during anti-smuggling patrols along the Northern corridor, ZRA said Wednesday.
ZRA Corporate Communications Manager Oliver Nzala said the driver presented customs documents that appeared legitimate but belonged to a different consignment. To mislead officers, smugglers used a truck whose registration number matched the fake documents, while the trailer carrying the grader had a different registration number as a disguise to bypass quick checkpoints.
“The Zambia Revenue Authority has officially seized the motor grader, the truck and the trailer used to carry it,” Nzala said. The seizure was made under the Customs and Excise Act, Chapter 322 of the Laws of Zambia.
He said ZRA remains on high alert to curb smuggling and urged taxpayers to avoid the practice to prevent forfeiture and prosecution.
