Government confirms death of Paramount Chief Mpezeni

GOVERNMENT confirmed Saturday the death of Paramount Chief Mpezeni, traditional leader of the Ngoni people.

Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana confirmed the death in an interview with reporters at the palace.

Kawana said he was in Eastern Province to mourn the recent death of the chief’s brother when news of Mpezeni’s passing arrived.

“As government, we are saddened by the passing of the chief,” Kawana said. “We will keep the nation informed when all protocols are put in place and the family and royal establishment have announced what is to follow.”

Kawana offered condolences to the royal family, the Ngoni people, residents of Eastern Province and the nation. He said government would support the family and chiefdom during the mourning period.
