President Hakainde Hichilema has warned the youths involved in disrupting his address in Chingola District to never repeat such behaviour, cautioning that any attempt to disturb future elections would be met with firm action.
“I am told the same youths who disrupted my address in Chingola want to disturb elections. Let them try and see — we just protected them, otherwise they should never ever try that again,” Hichilema said.
On Saturday, Hichilema abandoned a scheduled presidential address at the recently gutted Chiwempala Market in Chingola after unruly illegal miners started throwing stones at the podium.
Speaking during a meeting with United Party for National Development (UPND) structures across the Copperbelt Province,Hichilema urged the grassroots to begin reorganising and mobilising members ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
“The time to start membership mobilization is now. We want structures from as low as polling district level to start mobilising for the 2026 elections,” he said, adding that campaign money would be dispatched soon.
On the economy, the President said Zambia had been ranked the best-performing economy in the world due to ongoing reforms aimed at attracting investment and stimulating growth.

He urged party structures and citizens to maintain the same development trajectory to ensure continued progress and stability.
Among those who attended the meeting were Mines and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe, Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Chipoka Mulenga, and Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo.
Others included Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati, Labour and Social Security Minister Brenda Tambatamba, and Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali.
