ONE person was killed and 10 others were injured Monday night in a head-on collision on the Great North Road in Kafue, police said.
Zambia Police said the crash occurred around 7 p.m. at Mhango Curve when a Toyota Landcruiser attempted to overtake on a curve and collided with an oncoming Toyota Hiace minibus traveling in its lane.
The minibus, carrying 11 passengers, was driven by Muzondewa Hamapongo, 36, of Siavonga. The Landcruiser was driven by Justine Njobvu, 31, of Chirundu. Njobvu escaped unhurt.
An unidentified woman aged between 25 and 30 died from head injuries after being taken to Kafue District General Hospital. Her body is at the hospital mortuary awaiting identification and a postmortem.
Hamapongo sustained minor injuries. Ten passengers were admitted to the hospital with serious injuries and remain under treatment.
Police said investigations are ongoing and urged drivers to avoid improper overtaking, especially on curves, calling it a leading cause of fatal crashes.
