The quake occurred at 8:28 pm in China’s Guangxi Province, about five kilometers from Cao Loc Commune in Lang Son Province, at a depth of around 16.2 km.

Residents in Lang Son reported noticeable shaking that lasted several seconds but caused no damage.

“I was watching a football match when the television suddenly started to shake,” said Tu Anh, a resident of Dong Kinh Ward in Lang Son.

“At first, I thought the neighboring house had collapsed, so I ran outside, but there was nothing unusual.

“Only later did I realize it was an earthquake.”

Thu Hong, another local resident, said the shaking was not strong and lasted about five seconds.

“It felt like a road roller passing by,” she said.

The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center under the Institute of Earth Sciences said the quake posed no natural disaster risk and that it is continuing to monitor seismic activity in the area.

The institute also noted that a smaller earthquake of magnitude 2.9 was recorded on January 13, 2025 in Tan Tien Commune, Lang Son.
