In a proposal submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the consortium said it wanted to conduct surveys, prepare technical designs, and build the project’s first phase, after learning of the city’s plan to accelerate procedures for the line.
The consortium also expressed interest in joining future urban railway projects in the city if it meets the required conditions.
It said it would mobilize domestic resources to complete the project on schedule while meeting technical, cost, and quality requirements.
The consortium also pledged to transfer tunnel boring machine (TBM) operating technology to Vietnamese engineers to help build domestic expertise in modern tunnel construction for future urban railway projects.
Metro line No. 6 is planned as a 53.8-km inner-ring urban railway.
Ho Chi Minh City is prioritizing the first 23-km phase linking Tan Son Nhat airport with Phu Huu.
The first phase will connect with metro line No. 2 at Ba Queo Station, serve the airport’s T1, T2, and T3 terminals, and link to the planned Thu Thiem-Long Thanh railway at Phu Huu.
The city aims to complete the project before 2030 as part of a rail corridor connecting Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance said the project is currently at the feasibility study stage, with the city’s Management Authority for Urban Railways responsible for preparing the study.
The department said no further investment procedures have been carried out and that, after the project receives formal investment approval, the project owner will conduct procurement and contractor selection in accordance with Vietnam’s bidding regulations.
It advised the consortium to coordinate with the city’s Management Authority for Urban Railways to obtain updates on project preparation and participate in future tenders under applicable procurement rules.
Ho Chi Minh City has set a target of breaking ground on the first phase of metro line No. 6 later this year.
The metro is one of several planned rail links between Tan Son Nhat and the future Long Thanh International Airport.
Construction is already underway on sections of metro line No. 2, while the 48-km Thu Thiem-Long Thanh railway is scheduled to begin construction in September.
A separate extension of metro line No. 1 toward Long Thanh Airport is being developed by Dong Nai Province.
