VMSA Launches Legal Action Over Port Vila Oil Spill

The Vanuatu Maritime Safety Authority (VMSA) has taken legal action against the owner of LC Herpoli following an oil spill near Ifira in Port Vila Harbour.

Maritime Affairs Commissioner, Less John Napuati, confirmed the action to VBTC News this afternoon .

“I confirm that VMSA, with the support of SSP, has deployed oil booms around LC Herpoli at 12 noon today. This is to contain any further oil spills or rubbish leaking from the ship. Tomorrow, we will continue investigations to determine whether the oil is leaking from LC Herpoli or another vessel. We have already received confirmation from my Minister to proceed with legal action against the ship’s owner,” Napuati said.

Former Ambrym MP, Albert William, when contacted by VBTC News, said he had no comment.
