Some Schools Refuse to Allow Teachers Back Amid Strike Agreement

VBTC News has received information from the Secretary General of the Vanuatu Teachers Union, Jonathan Yonah, that some school administrations are not allowing teachers who participated in the industrial strike to return to classrooms.

SG Yonah said this approach could violate the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that the Teachers Union finalized with the Government in December last year.

A section of the CBA states that any teacher who left their school to join the strike on June 10, 2024, must be allowed to return to the same school they left.

As a result, school administrations or councils must accept the teachers back in the classroom, and failure to do so would be considered a breach of the agreement.
