PLTA to Standardize Bus Fares Across Efate

The Public Land Transport Authority says its office is working to legalize bus fares on Efate.

Chief Executive Officer of Public Land Transport, Reginald Tabi, said that next month, April, the public will start to see changes that will set clear pricing for bus fares in different areas.

This will give more power to PLTA to take action against drivers who overcharge passengers.

“If the board has already signed this and made it public, you have the right to report drivers if they charge you more than the distance you travel. We will be putting up signs on the road so everyone knows the distance and the charges, and if you report, the board can take disciplinary action against the driver.”

According to the information received, bus fares within the Port Vila Municipal Council boundary will remain unchanged at 150 vatu for adults.

Also, areas within 5 kilometers outside the municipal boundary will continue to pay 150 vatu for adults.

However, there will be changes to fares for areas beyond 5 kilometers outside the municipal area.

“Some places that currently do not pay 200 vatu, like Mele, Melemat, and Etas, still pay 150 vatu even though the distance is more than 5 kilometers, and this will increase. For longer distances where people already pay up to 500 vatu, such as Eton, Pangpang, and Onesua, there will be no increase.”
