Over VT60 Million Mobile Clinic Handed to Shefa Province to Improve Rural Healthcare Access

Remote communities in Shefa Province will now have improved access to essential healthcare services, with the handover of a new mobile clinic vehicle from the Japanese government.

His Excellency OKUDA Naohisa, Ambassador of Japan to Vanuatu, formally handed over this new achievement to the Shefa Provincial Health Service, through the Ministry of Health (MOH)..

MOH stated that this clinical vehicle is fully equipped to provide a wide range of services—including dental care, general medical consultations, mental health support, ultrasound scanning (to monitor pregnancies, examine organs, detect abnormalities & guide medical procedures) and electrocardiogram (ECG) diagnostics (to detect and monitor heart problems).

The mobile clinic valued at over VUV60 million, will enable health teams to deliver essential care directly to villages and remote areas, where access to health services has traditionally been limited.

Receiving the mobile clinic on behalf of the Vanuatu Government, Minister of Health Hon. John Still Tari-Qwetu expressed sincere appreciation for Japan’s continued support.

“I am very happy and grateful for the Government of Japan’s donation of this mobile clinic,” said Minister Tari-Qwetu.

“These vehicles will bring health services to the doorsteps of our people, ensuring nurses and doctors can reach communities that have difficulty accessing care.

“This support will significantly strengthen service delivery in Shefa Province.”

Ambassador Okuda reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Vanuatu’s health and development priorities.

“These mobile clinics will help save lives and provide vital care to the people of Vanuatu, delivering long-lasting benefits to the communities they serve,” said Ambassador Okuda.

“Japan will continue to support the development of Vanuatu’s healthcare system so that all people can live healthier and happier lives.

“We are confident this donation will further strengthen the bond between our two nations.”

At the official handing over ceremony, the ministry extended its gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their ongoing partnership and dedication to improving health outcomes for all communities across Vanuatu.

MOH stated that this donation from the government of Japan, underscores the longstanding partnership between Vanuatu, built on shared values, mutual respect, and a commitment to improving health and well-being.

This contribution is part of Japan’s ongoing technical and financial cooperation with Vanuatu’s health sector.
