The National University of Vanuatu (NUV) and the Ministry of Health have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen Vanuatu’s health workforce through education, research, professional development and institutional collaboration.
From a press release it states that the agreement, signed on Friday by NUV Vice-Chancellor Jean-Pierre Nirua and Minister of Health Hon. Robert Bohn Murray Sikol, establishes a long-term partnership to build a skilled, competent and resilient health workforce capable of meeting Vanuatu’s current and future healthcare needs.
Under the agreement, both institutions will work together in key areas including health workforce education and training, professional development, research, curriculum development, academic collaboration and initiatives aimed at improving the quality, accessibility and sustainability of health services across the country.
The partnership will also support student placements, collaborative research, policy engagement and the sharing of expertise between the National University of Vanuatu and the Ministry of Health.
Health Minister Robert Bohn Murray Sikol said the partnership brings together the strengths of both institutions to improve healthcare delivery.
“By combining the Ministry of Health’s leadership in the health sector with the National University of Vanuatu’s academic expertise, this partnership will help build a skilled, competent, and resilient health workforce capable of meeting the current and future health needs of our nation.”
NUV Vice-Chancellor Jean-Pierre Nirua described the agreement as an important step in ensuring higher education responds directly to Vanuatu’s national priorities.
“This Memorandum of Understanding reflects the National University of Vanuatu’s commitment to producing graduates who will make a meaningful contribution to the sustainable development of our nation. By working closely with the Ministry of Health, we are strengthening pathways for education, research, innovation and professional training that will equip Ni-Vanuatu health professionals with the knowledge, skills and leadership needed to serve our communities.”
Mr Nirua said the partnership aligns with the University’s mission to drive national development through excellence in teaching, research and community engagement.
Both institutions said the collaboration reflects a shared vision to foster innovation, strengthen institutional cooperation and invest in the people at the heart of Vanuatu’s healthcare system.
Through joint academic programmes, research initiatives and workforce development opportunities, the partnership is expected to improve health outcomes while supporting national development priorities.
