Melemat School has officially launched a set of new school policies aimed at improving school management, student learning, discipline, and the use of technology, following months of development and consultation.
School Principal Hyacinth Balmasen said that when he took up his position in May, he identified a number of areas that needed strengthening to align with the Education Act.
“There needs to be a policy under the Education Act that clearly guides how schools operate. We created these policies so the school can run smoothly and properly,” Balmasen said.
With support from the Principal of St. Patrick School, the Melemat School leadership team worked together to draft the policies. The school went through an orientation this week, and the policy was officially signed yesterday.
Balmasen said the new framework includes three main policies:
- Academic Policy – outlines the academic goals and structure of the school.
- Discipline Policy – guides student behaviour, teacher responsibilities, and ensures transparent school management.
- School Handbook – explains how the school operates daily, including spending processes and overall school governance for 2026.
The new policy also includes a dedicated ICT Policy, covering how students use technology, procedures for digital learning, and clear consequences for misuse.
Balmasen said feedback from the school’s trial use of a School Reporting App in Term 2 has been encouraging. Teachers have been able to submit student marks more efficiently, and parents are now more aware of their children’s learning progress.
“Many schools are still using Excel for reporting. This app helps us enter marks properly and lets parents see their children’s learning levels. Teachers gave very good feedback,” he said.
Balmasen said the new policies will help Melemat School provide a more structured, transparent, and supportive learning environment for all students going into 2026.
