Historic Draw: Vanuatu Gideons Hold Solomon Islands in OFC Futsal Cup Clash

For the first time in history, Vanuatu’s Gideons Futsal team has held regional powerhouse Solomon Islands to a draw, finishing 1–1 in their OFC Futsal Cup 2025 pool match in Fiji.

The result marks a major milestone for Vanuatu, coming 17 years after their last victory against the Kurukuru in 2008.

Despite going down narrowly 4–5 against Fiji yesterday, the Gideons showed grit and determination on court today. Their equalizing goal made the difference, denying the Solomon Islands a win.

Paul Takaro was named Man of the Match after scoring Vanuatu’s only goal that secured the historic result.
