Football clubs under Port Vila Football Association (PVFA) have given back to Vila Central Hospital (VCH) through a clean-up and repainting activity last weekend, showing appreciation to doctors and nurses for their life-saving work.
iCount Yatel FC, Tafea FC, North Efate United FC, Sheperds United FC, and Tafea Women’s FC came together to support the hospital as part of activities marking VCH’s 50th Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Director General of the Ministry of Health and President of North Efate United FC, Sheley Toukon, said she was happy with the turnout, describing the initiative as a big contribution that reflects the importance of unity across sectors.
“We appreciate our VCH, maybe they have a lot of challenges, but this celebration will reflect our sector by sector to build up our VCH,” Toukon said.
PVFA President Harry Atison also praised the effort, saying the involvement of the clubs is a model for other institutions to follow.
“A big thank you to the Ministry of Health for partnering with PVFA. This tournament and activity is not just about celebration but something that can continue to happen more,” Atison told VBTC Sports.
The clean-up took an entire morning, with players and club officials volunteering their time to help refresh the hospital in preparation for its Golden Jubilee celebrations, which will run from Wednesday to Saturday, ending with the Grand Finals of the Fit and Fierce football competition.
