87 Million Vatu Investment Strengthens Education Under the Ambae Recovery Program

The Beverly Hills School officially opened its doors on Wednesday, marking a major milestone in the government’s commitment to strengthening schools and improving education across Vanuatu. Prime Minister Jotham Napat led the ceremony, highlighting the school’s role in providing quality learning spaces for children in the community.

“This is not just a classroom but a school that will serve as the heart of this community,” Prime Minister Napat said, emphasizing the government’s ongoing investment in access, quality, and long-term development in the education sector.

The school was built at a cost of over 87 million Vatu under the Ambae Recovery Program, addressing the issue of overcrowded classrooms at Freswota School and providing new learning spaces for children affected by the 2017 volcanic disaster.

“Education remains a top priority for this government. Through school grants and reforms, we are committed to building a nation that can adapt to change, both locally and globally,” Prime Minister Napat added.

The initiative was supported by the governments of Australia and New Zealand, who have been key partners in Vanuatu’s education sector for many years.

Principal Delma Joel said the school has a strong mission and vision:
“Our mission is to provide a high-quality education and child care in a safe, respectful, friendly, caring, and inclusive environment. Our vision is a school where all children feel loved, respected, and encouraged to develop to their fullest potential.”

Prime Minister Napat closed the ceremony with words of encouragement for the students:
“Look up, aim high, and go forward. Never let anyone tell you that you cannot achieve your dreams. You can do it. This school will help you grow and serve your country.”

The opening of Beverly Hills School also marks one year of the 14th Legislature, reflecting the government’s commitment to investing in the future of Vanuatu’s children.
