PSG Wins UEFA Super Cup for the First Time in Club History

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — French football club Paris Saint-Germain defeated English side Tottenham Hotspur in a penalty shootout to claim the UEFA Super Cup.

The match, held in Udine, Italy, ended 2-2 in regular time. For Tottenham, goals were scored by Micky van de Ven (39th minute) and Cristian Romero (48th), while PSG’s goals came from Lee Kang-in (85th) and Gonçalo Ramos (90+4).

In the penalty shootout, PSG triumphed 4-3. Missed penalties included Vitinha for PSG, and van de Ven and Mathys Tel for Tottenham.

In May, PSG had previously thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 to win the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club’s history. The recently claimed Super Cup also marks a first for the club. In July, PSG lost 0-3 to Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup final. Previously, in 1996, the team won the Cup Winners’ Cup.

Tottenham, the current UEFA Europa League champion, has also won two UEFA Cups and one Cup Winners’ Cup (1963).
