For the second straight year, three defending champs began atop the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Soccer Polls for the 2026 season revealed on Wednesday. The preseason rankings have the Cody girls, Jackson girls, and Jackson boys at No. 1. Last year’s defending 3A boys’ champ, Buffalo, was second in the balloting. In the girls’ polls, the teams that took home trophies from the 2025 state tournament were all ranked in the preseason top five. For boys, last year’s runner-up and third-place finishers made the preseason rankings, but the consolation trophy winners were just outside the top five.

Cody was a unanimous pick for No. 1 in 3A girls. The Fillies return several key players from the 2025 state championship roster. Jackson got 11 of the 14 first-place votes in the 4A girls’ poll. Led by reigning Gatorade Player of the Year Ruby Hoelscher, the Broncs will be a contender again in 2026. Jackson also topped the 4A boys’ poll as a unanimous choice for the top spot. The Broncs are seeking their fifth 4A crown in the last six seasons.
The only team that was at the top of the rankings and not a defending champion was Cody in 3A boys. The Broncs were runner-up last year, and despite receiving fewer votes for No. 1 than defending champion Buffalo, Cody edged the Bison for the top spot by six points in the voting. The difference was that more second-place ballots were cast for the Broncs versus Buffalo.
