LSU gained the commitment of five-star guard King Gibson, making him the second high school recruit to join coach Will Wade since returning to the program in March.
The 6-foot-5, 180-pound combo guard announced his decision on ESPN2 on Sunday night.
Gibson is the No. 13 player overall and No. 2 shooting guard in the 2027 recruiting class, according to ESPN. He picked the Tigers over a final list that included Providence, Arkansas and Louisville.

The Greensboro, North Carolina native attends Spire Academy in Ohio and first received an LSU offer under previous coach Matt McMahon and his staff on June 27, 2024. Gibson last visited the program on Sept. 25. Wade had also offered Gibson a scholarship on June 7, 2025, back when he led NC State.
LSU hasn’t added a five-star prospect to the program since Wade’s first stint as coach (2017-22).
The last five-star prospect to come to Baton Rouge was center Efton Reid, who was the No. 20 player in the 2021 class, according to ESPN. Wade added at least one five-star prospect each cycle starting in 2018.
Gibson averaged 15 points, 3.7 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game last year at Spire. He also shot 47% from the field, 46% from the 3-point line and 80% from the free-throw line.
The only other commit LSU has in the 2027 class is Ahmad Hudson, the No. 20 player overall and No. 4 power forward, according to ESPN. The 6-7, 239-pound forward plays at Ruston and also committed to LSU as a football player on May 3.
Hudson is the No. 1 tight end and the No. 23 football player in the country, according to ESPN. In May, he said he plans on playing both sports in college. However, he might flip to Nebraska after reportedly visiting Nebraska on Saturday, making his second visit since committing to LSU.
LSU has publicly announced four players on its 2026-27 roster for next season: Kentucky transfer forward Mo Dioubate, Michigan State transfer guard Divine Ugochukwu, Kansas State transfer guard Abdi Bashir and University of Texas at San Antonio guard Austin Nunez
Wade said Sept. 23 he has 15 players signed and practicing since Sept. 2. He said he likes where his team is in the offseason despite three of four players still facing hurdles in guaranteeing their eligibility.
LSU plays its first exhibition game against McNeese State at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Townsley Law Arena in Lake Charles.
