ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Wednesday will likely end up being one of the least active days in the extended forecast as the showers and storms that form will likely be mainly virga showers/storms.
It’s been a while since we’ve had to talk about these but this means that wetting rains will be minimal at best. Storms that produce lightning strikes may also start new fires as we’re still dealing with different levels of drought nearly statewide.
Gusty outflow winds may also accompany some storms. There’s no real concern of flooding Wednesday.
Temperatures are also likely to be warmer than yesterday for central and northwestern New Mexico. Eastern and southern New Mexico will continue to be hot. A moderate heat risk is in eastern counties.
The downtick in storm coverage will not last long. Another system will help pull another monsoon moisture plume into the Desert Southwest. The weekend and early next week will be a little finicky due to a ridge.
