VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) The day was as ugly as a football day can be for the Vikings Saturday in Madison, SD.
Quarterback Ethan Kastner was sacked six times, the Vikings committed four turnovers and no back rushed for more than 24 yards in a 40-7 loss to Dakota State. The Vikings fell to 4-3, 1-2 in Frontier East play.
Kastner threw a pair of picks with little time to work with, being dropped six times behind the line, finishing 12-28 for 105 yards. It was his first start in relief of injured Joey Cave, who took an injury during the week.
Meanwhile, the rushing game for Dakota State was stalwart, gaining 151 yards on the day. Preston Iverson led the effort, rushing for 96 yards and two scores. Quarterback Tray Hettick was 18-30 for 183 yards and two touchdowns.
Valley City State hosts Dickinson State in their final home game of the season Saturday. Gametime has been moved to 1:00 PM.
