PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Caught on camera, a meteor raced across the night sky over The Dalles on Monday.
KOIN 6 viewer Jacqueline Tharp’s camera was able to capture a meteor shooting across the night sky at 10:32 p.m. This could be part of the Orionid meteor showers that start to peak on October 20 and are expected to last through October 23.

Stargazers should look to the southern horizon after dark. The new moon should make spotting the meteors easier, with a total of 10 meteors per hour possible. Clouds are expected to increase across the Pacific Northwest by the middle of the week. The best chance to see the peak of the meteor shower is Tuesday evening, before clouds increase early Wednesday morning. Getting away from city lights will give sky watchers a better chance at this year’s Orionid meteor shower.
