The Vegas Golden Knights gave up a power-play goal in overtime in a 2-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena on Saturday.
Blue Jackets center Adam Fantilli scored the winner 59 seconds into the extra period, 44 seconds after defenseman Shea Theodore was called for holding.
It’s the fifth straight game the Knights (8-4-1) have given up a power-play goal.
Center Tomas Hertl scored the lone goal for the Knights, who went winless on a two-game road trip.
Goaltender Carter Hart finished with 18 saves.
Forward Mitch Marner missed his second consecutive game. He is in Las Vegas with his wife Stephanie after she gave birth to their second child.
Hart, making his first start since allowing six goals on 20 shots Tuesday against Tampa Bay, was dialed in, particularly in the second period.
He stopped all eight Columbus shots, including a highlight-reel glove save on Blue Jackets center Sean Monahan.
Coach Ryan Craig said at morning skate that a good first period involved all four lines getting involved and managing the puck well.
It didn’t look that way early against Columbus (4-5-0), the team with the fewest points in the Eastern Conference.
The Knights gave up the first goal for the eighth time in 13 games. After failing to get the puck out of the defensive zone, Columbus defenseman Denton Mateychuk walked in from the blue line and finished with a backhand at 11:51.
That woke the Knights up. Hertl scored on a rebound after Braeden Bowman was robbed by Columbus goaltender Cam Talbot, tying it 1-1 with 2:47 left.
Rookie forward Trevor Connelly started the play after forcing a turnover in the neutral zone.
Bowman was moved up to the third line in place of Raphael Lavoie, who had skated there since the injury to Victor Olofsson on Oct. 6.
Talbot finished with 26 saves, including 13 in the third that included glove-save robberies on Connelly and Jack Eichel to keep the game tied.
This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
