CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – The second day of the Vandalia Gathering brought out musicians and craftmakers from across the state to celebrate Appalachian heritage.
Vendors, entertainers and event-goers came out to the West Virginia State Capitol grounds Saturday to share and celebrate the rich history and culture of the Mountain State. The Gathering included a variety of live music, including fiddling and Bluegrass banjo contests!
People who attended the event say it’s important to celebrate and remember the traditions and history of West Virginia. Laiken Blankenship, musician and Golden Seal Magazine editor, and Genie Moninger, owner of Folk and Fable.
“West Virginia is a great, kind, welcoming state,” said Blankenship and Moninger. “We have all kinds of people here with all kinds of talents. and it’s worth staying here, living here, preserving, growing here. That’s why celebrations like this are so important to our culture and roots, ’cause it is a place for those to be shared for generations, with the young learning from the old and vice versa.”
The Vandalia Gathering continues starting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, including a watch party for the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships on the Culture Center patio.
