CASPER, Wyo. — On Friday, the Casper/Natrona County International Airport announced that it was anticipating that Casper travelers would see some flight cancellations caused by the FAA and DOT reduction in flights across 40 major airports.
At the time, the C/NCIA stated that it hadn’t seen any impacts to its own flights, but that has changed, according to a new list of cancelled flights shared by United Airlines.
“The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently directed every airline to reduce their schedules across 40 U.S. airports during the government shutdown,” United wrote on their website. “The FAA’s goal is to relieve pressure on the aviation system so that every airline can continue to operate safely. That is the FAA’s highest priority, and ours as well. No matter what environment we’re operating in, we won’t compromise on safety.”
Recently, United Airlines published a list of flight schedule changes for Friday, Nov. 7, Saturday, Nov. 8 and Sunday, Nov. 9. Included in those schedules are cancelled flights to or from Casper, via Denver International Airport.
While there are no flights to or from Casper on Friday, Nov. 7 there was a flight, UA5809, scheduled to leave Casper and land in Denver on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 3:18 p.m. That flight has been cancelled. Additionally, a flight leaving from Denver to Casper at 5:55 p.m., UA5695, has been cancelled as well.
At the time of this writing, those are the only two Casper-based flights that have been cancelled. The full list of cancelled flights can be viewed on the United Airlines website.
UA shared some frequently asked questions, and stated that if an individual’s flight had been cancelled, they would be contacted. UA wrote that they will be making rolling updates to their schedule based on the timing of the government shutdown and will attempt to give as much notice as possible.
UA also wrote that a person can change their flight to a new date up to six days before or after their original travel date, if they meet both of the following qualifications:
- Your original travel date is between November 6-13
- Your original flight was purchased on or before November 4, 2025
“If you’re traveling between November 6-13 and do not wish to fly, you’re eligible for a refund if your ticket was purchased on or before November 4, 2025— even if your flight isn’t canceled,” United wrote. “That includes non-refundable tickets and Basic Economy tickets.”
Those who are wondering if their flights are cancelled can check their flight status at any time on the United website or via the United Airlines app.
“If your flight is canceled, we’ll give you as much notice as possible, so you don’t show up at the airport expecting to fly,” United wrote. “But the best way to stay up to date is through the United app, which gives you real-time updates, rebooking options and more.”
The Associated Press reported that hundreds of flights at several major airports have been cut as part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s decision to usher in 10% reductions because of the current and ongoing federal government shutdown.
“The FAA is imposing the reductions to take pressure off air traffic controllers, who are federal employees and have been working without pay during the shutdown,” the AP wrote. “In addition to reduced flight traffic, the shutdown has led to more flight delays, with experts advising travelers to check flight statuses before heading to the airport, among other tips.”
