Tupper Lake Americorps program staff saved by generous donation

TUPPER LAKE, Vt. (WCAX) – After a popular natural history center in the North Country lost $70,000 in federal funding because of DOGE cuts, they now say, they will be able to keep their staff.

The Wild Center in Tupper Lake is the only AmeriCorps program in the Adirondacks, and they had 8 contracted workers they believed would have to be cut.

But they say that since our story aired, a long-time founding member heard about what was going on and called to offer an anonymous gift of $36,000 if they could raise the balance in 30 days. And they did!

Center staff say there are more challenges ahead, but are happy that losing staff is not one of them.
