Travel tips ahead of record-breaking holiday weekend

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – More than 45 million Americans are on the move for Memorial Day weekend, marking the unofficial start of summer.

Between now and Monday, AAA anticipates more than two million New Englanders will travel 50 miles or more. 1.85 million of those people will be hitting the roads.

If you’re looking to avoid traffic, the earlier you leave, the better. That means before 11 a.m. or 12 p.m. heading to your vacation, and leaving for home before 2 Monday afternoon.

AAA says gas prices are lower than the same time last year, but for the best deals at the pump, drivers may need to go a little further from the interstate.

For people flying AAA says to stay flexible. With flight delays and the real ID rollout, get to the airport early and pack your patience.
