Transit bus hits multiple car, strikes train station in Bridgeport

Several people were hospitalized after a transit bus struck multiple vehicles and crashed into the train station in Bridgeport on Tuesday evening.

Bridgeport Police Department officers and Bridgeport Fire Department personnel responded to the 500 block of Water Street around 7:41 p.m. on Tuesday on a report of a Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority bus involved in collisions with multiple vehicles before crashing into the Bridgeport Train Station, according to the Bridgeport Police Department.

Arriving officers found that the GBTA bus came to rest after striking the concrete station structure, police said.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and transported several people to area hospitals. According to police, the extent of injuries have not been determined.

Police said all of the individuals were reported to be alert and conscious.

According to police, train service was not interrupted.

The Bridgeport Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is conducting the ongoing investigation into the incident.
