Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes girls and boys basketball teams picked up wins in the annual Oakes-Ellendale games with the girls winning 58-28 and the boys winning 48-36.
Girls Game
The girls got the night started and the Tornadoes were on fire in the 1st quarter with Emily Rosendahl helping fan the flames with 2 huge treys. Izzy Friedt and Mallory Harris would also pick up three balls in the quarter as they’d have a 21-9 lead through 1. The Tornado defense would then lock down on Ellendale only allowing 3 points in the 2nd quarter to have a 35-12 lead going into the half.
Oakes would continue their dominance into the 3rd frame with 2 more 3-balls and holding the Cards to only 1 field goal to take a commanding 51-21 lead. Rosendahl would pick up 1 more three in the 4th to lock in the win at 58-28.
The Bank North Player of the Game was Emily Rosendahl with 9 points and a bunch of steals on defense.
Next up for the Tornadoes is Kidder County at the Stutsman County Shootout on 12/20.
8oth Annual Cowbell Game
The Tornadoes came into the game as back to back winners of the Cowbell and looked to become the first Oakes team in nearly 30 years to win it more then twice in a row. The game started slow for both teams as they struggled to get the scoring started with it being 2-1 at around the 4 minute mark in the first. Oakes would then start to hit from distance with Andrew Undem and Beau Thorpe picking 3’s. Oakes would take a 15-9 lead through 1. Ellendale would then start to claw back inspite of rough shooting only going 5/21 in the first half. They’d narrow the lead down to 24-19. It also helped Ellendale that Beau Thorpe struggled shooting during the middle portion of the game.
Ellendale would continue to chip away at the lead as they’d make it a 32-28 game going into the final frame. Beau would then start flaming the Cardinals with 5 straight buckets 2 from downtown scoring 13 in the final frame to put the Cardinals away as the Ellendale shooting woes continued in the 4th quarter. Oakes would bring home the Cowbell for the 3rd straight year with the 48-36 victory.
The Bank North Player of the Game was Beau Thorpe with 20.
The Tornadoes are back in action on KDDR The Tornado on the 20th against the Linton-HMB Lions in Oakes at around 5:00 pm with pregame at 4:45 pm.
