Forman, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The District 1 Tournament continued on in Forman as the7th seed Oakes Tornadoes entered Halloween night in a loser out match against 6th seed Enderlin. They were able to keep their season alive as they swept the Eagles 25-16, 26-24, 27-25.
The match started with Tornado dominance as they came out firing early against the Eagles taking a quick 7-1 lead and never looking back. Enderlin would get it to within 2 at 17-15 but Oakes would end the set on a 8-1 run to take set 1 25-16.
Set 2 was much closer. The set would start with ties at 1’s and 2’s before Oakes jumped to a 7-2 lead. The Eagles would then battle back to tie it at 8 with both teams trading points and the lead till 14-14 when Enderlin would get to a 18-15 lead. Oakes would tie it again however at 19-19 and retake the lead the next point. The lead would change twice more with 4 more ties for a grand total of 14 ties and 8 lead changes in set 2. Oakes would have set points at 24-23 and again at 25-24 before winning it 26-24.
Set 3 was similar to set 2 however this time Enderlin came out firing taking an early 4-0 lead. Oakes would battle back and tie it at 4-4. The Eagles would maintain their lead through a couple more ties before losing it at 8-7 after that Oakes would hold onto the lead. After another tie at 11-11 Oakes would jump to a 19-13 lead and eaven a 21-16 lead before Enderlin battled all the way back to tie it at 21-21. The Tornadoes would bounce back again and get to match point at 24-21. The Eagles would survive 3 match points to tie it at 24-24. Oakes would get a 4th match point at 25-24 but the Eagles would tie it again. Oakes would get a 5th match point immediately after and win the match 27-25.
Enderlin’s season comes to a close with a 14-18 record while Oakes rises to 9-19.
The Tornadoes will play in the 2nd Region Qualifier game on Monday November 3rd at around 6:00 pm against Maple River. The Oakes Tornadoes haven’t missed a Region Tournament since 2011. You can catch the match on KDDR The Tornado.
