Organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), “KAWS: FAMILY” at Crystal Bridges is KAWS’ Arkansas solo exhibition debut, featuring drawings, paintings, sculptures, advertising interventions and product collaborations. Expanding to fit Crystal Bridges’ exhibition gallery space, this presentation builds on the AGO’s original exhibition to create an experience that is uniquely suited for the museum.

What: The Lost World of Dragons

This traveling exhibit features seven life-size animatronic dragons with realistic movement and sound, as well as hands-on displays that explore the origins and cultural significance of dragon legends across continents. The exhibit teaches guests how those myths have shaped human understanding through history, science, literature and art. In addition, visitors can create their own dragon stories using stop-motion animation tools!

This spectacular 2,500-square-foot exhibit invites children to journey back to the age of dinosaurs in an educational and exciting environment. Seven breathtaking animatronic dinosaurs, each showcased in its own unique setting with lifelike movements and sounds, promise a thrilling prehistoric adventure.

What: “Kwame Brathwaite: The 1970s”

In the 1960s, Kwame Brathwaite (1938-2023) used photography to promote “Black is Beautiful” through the artist collectives he helped create. Building on that legacy, this exhibition highlights the artist’s independent studio work in the 1970s. From shooting gorgeous, color-saturated portraits in his studio, to capturing musicians Nina Simone and Marvin Gaye mid-performance, new creative stories emerged with a new decade. The exhibition includes some never-before-seen images from the artist’s archive.

It’s a fundraising experience like never before, and a chance to stand victorious against your competition! Teams arrive at noon on Friday to set up their tents and meet the other teams. Shortly after sunset, there will be a professional fireworks display! On race day, 20 team members will slice their paddles to the drummer’s beat at the boat’s helm, propelling the 46-foot-long dragon boat toward the finish line. The competition is heated. The food trucks, fireworks, children’s activities, cheering crowd and brightly colored dragon-scaled boats create an electric atmosphere, all benefiting the Children’s Protection Center!

Now in its 30th year, Free Fishing Weekend gives both residents and nonresidents a chance to fish without needing an Arkansas fishing license or trout stamp. Among the highlights of the weekend are AGFC’s annual hatchery fishing derbies on Saturday, June 7, held at each of the agency’s four warmwater hatcheries. These events are geared toward youth under 18 and their families, turning the traditional kids-only derbies into full family affairs. There are AGFC hatcheries located in Lonoke, Hot Springs, Corning and Centerton.
