Top 10 upset leads Ann Arbor-area boys basketball roundup for Jan. 20

It’s been an up and down season for Whitmore Lake’s boys basketball team but Tuesday’s outcome could be the one needed to spark a run.

The Trojans secured a significant win at home, defeating Division 4 No. 10-ranked Southfield Christian in front of their home crowd.

Derrick Lewis had yet another double-double to the lead the Trojans as he finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four steals.

To go along with Lewis’ performance, Landon Livingston added 13 points and four assists and Nolan Collins finished with 11 points.

The Trojans snapped a two-game slide to improve to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in the MIAC.

They will next head to Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest on Friday.

Chelsea continues to roll

The Bulldogs picked up their fifth straight win with a 71-62 victory over Skyline.

Drew Cabana led Chelsea with 20 points, followed by 16 from Buck Allen, 15 from Josh Stephens and eight apiece from Wyatt Matusik and Beckett Boos.

The Bulldogs (9-2) will next travel to Adrian on Friday.

Saline routs Ypsilanti for third straight win

The Hornets took down the Grizzlies 73-43 to extend their win streak.

Chris Cotuna filled the stat sheet once again with 11 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks for Saline.

Brady Costigan led the Hornets with 17 points and six assists, while Noah Kronberg had 12 points and Gabe Iadiapaolo had nine points and seven rebounds.

Ypsilanti was led by Lazon Tooson, who had 16 points and Erion Bennett added 13 points.

Milan gets in the win column

The Big Reds ended a three-game losing streak with a 52-33 win over Garden City.

“Total team win we played our best defensive game as a team,” said Milan coach William Eaddy.

Landon Talladay led the charge for Milan with 29 points and 11 rebounds, while Zach Farmer and Will Kliber each finished with five points.

Milan improved to 3-10 with the win and will next host Monroe Jefferson on Friday.
