LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A local nonprofit stepped up on Saturday to make sure no mom goes without.
For many moms, something as simple as a clean diaper can be a daily stress.
“We are in desperate need of building our inventory to support these mothers,” said Danielle Garcia, the founder of Baby & Me.
That’s where Baby & Me comes in, teaming up with two other organizations to provide critical supplies to families who need a little extra support.
Ashley Tobias with T-Square Movers and Ashley Milner with REMAX Concepts are working with the nonprofit to bring mothers a sigh of relief.
“We just felt that there was a strong sense of urgency to come together collaboratively in the community to show forth what’s possible,” said Milner. “We have the T-squared, we have the Charging Station, we have Baby & Me. We’ve all united as one to stand up for something so impactful for so many families here in Lincoln.”
All three women gathered near 70th and Pioneers Blvd to stuff a truckload of 1,000 boxes of diapers and wipes.
And for them, their mission hits close to home.
“I was a single mom for several years, Ashley was too,” Milner said. “There was just that connection and that need, and we felt that we could merge together as women and business owners in the community to really back something that’s so empowering.”
“Single mom for a decade for each of us, being able to do this,” Tobias said. “To have had this back then, would’ve been great for what we went through.”
Beyond helping mothers, the fundraiser also proved to be a way to shine a light on those offering that help across Lincoln.
“We’re trying to create an impact from a community standpoint,” Milner said. “Being in business, it’s easy to be transactional, it’s easy to go onto the next cell and the next opportunity. But with this, we really want to continue to aid a continuous communal, opportunity where small businesses and nonprofits are being recognized.”
Twelve businesses around the capital city are serving as drop-off locations to support the cause through May 18.
