‘The Voice of Hind Rajab’ screens Saturday at Ron Robinson Theater

This Saturday, there will be a free community screening of “The Voice of Hind Rajab” at 7 p.m. at CALS Ron Robinson Theater. The 2025 film, which straddles documentary and dramatization, is based on the true story of Hind Rajab, a 5-year-old Palestinian girl who was murdered by the Israel Defense Forces in early 2024.

Although thousands of young children have been killed by the state of Israel since October 2023, the circumstances of Hind’s death are particularly harrowing, heartbreaking and, perhaps most of all, damning. While Hind’s family was seeking safe harbor from the ongoing genocide in Gaza, an Israeli tank shot at the vehicle she and her family were traveling in, killing most her family but sparing Hind and one of her cousins. Hind’s cousin managed to call the Palestine Red Crescent Society for help. After notifying Israeli authorities of their plans, paramedics from the Red Crescent came to rescue Hind but were later reported missing. A recording of Hind’s voice pleading the words “I’m so scared, please come” haunted the public as we collectively awaited the news that we all feared: The paramedic team along with Hind and her cousin had been killed by Israeli forces.

“The Voice of Hind Rajab,” directed by Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania, won several awards at international film festivals and was recently nominated in the International Feature Film category for the 98th Academy Awards.

You can RSVP to the screening here.
