STEM, N.C. (WNCN) — A 17-year-old was killed in a drive-by shooting in Granville County this week, and the sheriff’s office said a 19-year-old and a juvenile have been arrested and charged in his death.
According to the Granville County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened around 8:28 p.m. Monday in the area of Little Pond Road near Stem. Deputies said according to their preliminary investigation, 19-year-old Jose Antonio Flores-Rodrigues fired multiple shots from a car, hitting 17-year-old Demonte Ricks of Butner. He then left the scene.
Deputies were called to the scene, where they saw “multiple members of the community” performing life-saving measures on Ricks before EMS arrived. The sheriff’s office said Ricks died from his injuries despite the attempts to save his life.
It was later determined the suspect and victim knew each other. Deputies said they were also able to identify two juveniles who were in the car with Flores-Rodrigues during the deadly shooting.
